Antibacterial Spray vs Deodorising Spray: What’s the Difference?
If your boxing gloves smell after training, should you use an antibacterial spray or a deodorising spray?
The short answer: they do different jobs.
An antibacterial sports spray is designed to sanitise boxing gloves and sports equipment, while a deodorising spray is designed to neutralise unwanted odours and freshen them.
For sweaty boxing gloves, MMA gloves and other fight equipment, there’s a place for both.
What Does an Antibacterial Spray Do?
Boxing gloves create a warm, damp environment after training. Sweat and moisture can make them an ideal place for microorganisms to build up.
An antibacterial sports spray is used to sanitise your boxing gloves after training.
Combact Antibacterial Sports Kit Spray has virucidal, bactericidal, yeasticidal and fungicidal action, making it suitable for boxing gloves, MMA gloves, shin guards, pads and other sweat-exposed sports equipment.
Spray it onto your equipment after training and allow it to dry.
What Does a Deodorising Spray Do?
A deodorising spray has a different purpose.
Instead of sanitising equipment, it is designed to target unwanted smells.
Combact Sportswear Refresher uses a special odour-neutralising formula to tackle stubborn odours in boxing gloves, MMA gloves, footwear, gym bags and sportswear.
So if your boxing gloves need freshening and deodorising, this is the product designed for that job.
Antibacterial Spray vs Deodorising Spray
The easiest way to remember the difference is:
Antibacterial spray = sanitise and deep clean.
Deodorising spray = neutralise odours and refresh.
A deodoriser isn't a replacement for an antibacterial spray, and an antibacterial spray doesn't make a dedicated deodoriser unnecessary.
They solve two different problems.

Can You Use Both on Boxing Gloves?
Yes. In fact, here at Combact we use both all the time.
For a simple post-training routine could be:
1. Sanitise your boxing gloves with Combact Antibacterial Sports Kit Spray.
2. Wipe and dry them using a microfibre cloth.
3. Deodorise with Combact Sportswear Refresher when your gloves need freshening.
Always allow boxing gloves to air dry rather than leaving damp gloves sealed inside your gym bag. Remember, moisture is the enemy.
Which Spray Should I Use?
If your priority is boxing glove hygiene, choose an antibacterial sports spray.
If your priority is smelly boxing gloves, choose a deodorising spray.
If you want to both sanitise and deodorise your boxing gloves, use the two products for their separate purposes.
Combact's Boxing Glove Cleaning & Deodoriser Kit combines the Antibacterial Sports Kit Spray, Sportswear Refresher and Premium Microfibre Cloth in one post-training system.
The Bottom Line
Antibacterial spray sanitises. Deodorising spray tackles unwanted odours.
For hard-working boxing gloves and fight equipment, understanding that difference makes it much easier to choose the right product for the job.
