How often to wash your sportswear?

Sportswear and technical apparel are designed to wick away sweat and moisture, keeping you cool and dry during your workouts. But with all that sweat comes bacteria, which can cause unpleasant odors and even skin infections. That's why it's important to establish an effective hygiene routine.

How often to wash your sportswear

We've been taught to believe we need to wash our activewear after every use, but that's not always necessary. It really depends on:

  • How sweaty you get. If you sweat a lot during your workouts, you'll need to wash your sportswear more often.
  • The type of activity you're doing. If you're doing a high-intensity workout, you might need to wash your sportswear more often than if you're doing a low-intensity workout.
  • The weather conditions. If you're working out in hot or humid weather, you'll need to wash your sportswear more often than if you're working out in cool or dry weather.

Why we want to avoid over washing our kit

Over-washing your sportswear can damage the fabric and shorten its lifespan. The fabric could stretch, fade or even shrink if you get it wrong. Not to mention, many sportswear fabrics are treated with finishes that give them their wicking and moisture-wicking properties. Over-washing can damage these coatings and finishes, making the fabric less effective at wicking away sweat and moisture.

How to use our Sportswear Refresher and Antibacterial Sports Kit spray to wash less

The 150ml Sportswear Refresher spray can help you extend the life of your sportswear and technical apparel, and reduce the number of times you need to wash them. The spray is safe on all your gear, and provides a long lasting fresh linen effect whilst eliminating Mal-odours at the source. Our Antibacterial Sports Kit spray is effective on those harder to wash items, such as boxing gloves. It'll remove sweat and bacteria allowing you to be fresher, safer and stronger at your next workout.
